We had our annual visit by St. Nicholas. In our humble
opinion, St. Nicholas is a young and jolly fellow who comes by with well-wishes
for everyone (at the very least, that is what our experiences have led us to
believe). This is a slightly edited version to describe this delightfully jolly
fellow who graced us with his presence (although, we honestly believe that the
pictures do a better job than our words, so make sure to look at those too).
“The stockings were hung by the chimney with care in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there. He was dressed all in fur from his head to his foot and his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot. A bundle of toys he had flung on his back and he looked like a peddler just opening his sack. His eyes how they twinkled, his dimples so merry, his cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry. The beard on his chin was as ginger as a red bow. We laughed when we saw him in spite of ourselves. A wink of his eye, and a twist of his head soon gave us to know we had nothing to dread. We heard him exclaim, Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”
